Privacy Policy

Introduction

This page covers what data StackConvert collects, how we use it, and what we do to keep it safe. The short version: we collect very little, most of our tools run entirely in your browser, and we do not sell your information to anyone.

Information We Collect

Files You Upload

Most file processing happens entirely in your browser, so we never see your files in the first place. For a few operations that need server-side processing (like Word to PDF), files are processed in memory and deleted immediately after conversion. We do not store, retain, or have access to any files you convert.

Contact Information

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject line, and whatever you write in the message. That is it. We only use this to respond to you.

Analytics Data

We collect anonymous usage data to understand how the site is being used - things like pages visited, time on site, browser type, device info, and general location (country or region level, not your street address). None of this is tied to you personally.

How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to reply to messages you send us, improve the site based on how people actually use it, and comply with any legal obligations that apply. We do not use your information for marketing, and we do not sell it.

Google AdSense & Third-Party Ads

StackConvert may display ads through Google AdSense and other advertising networks. These services use cookies and similar technologies to show you ads based on your browsing history across websites. Google, for example, uses cookies like the DART cookie to personalize the ads you see.

If you would rather not see personalized ads, you can opt out through Google Ads Settings or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. We do not control the cookies or tracking used by these advertisers.

Third-Party Services

We rely on a few third-party services to run the site, and each has its own privacy policy:

  • Google Analytics collects anonymous traffic data so we can see which pages people use and how they find us.
  • Google AdSense serves the ads you see on the site and may use cookies to personalize them.
  • Formspree handles contact form submissions on our behalf.
  • Our hosting and CDN providers deliver site content and may log IP addresses for security.

This privacy policy only covers what StackConvert itself collects. For anything handled by the services above, their own policies apply.

How We Protect Your Data

Most file conversions on StackConvert - images, JSON, QR codes, and others - happen entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device for those operations. For the few conversions that need server-side processing (like Word to PDF), files are handled in memory and deleted right after. Nothing gets stored.

All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted over HTTPS. We do not require accounts, so there are no passwords or personal profiles to protect in the first place. We only collect the minimum data needed to keep the site running and to respond if you contact us. We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with anyone for marketing purposes. We also keep our infrastructure and dependencies updated to stay ahead of known vulnerabilities.

Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and local storage to remember your preferences (like your theme setting) and to collect anonymous analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser settings if you prefer.

Your Rights

You can request access to any personal information we have, ask us to correct anything inaccurate, request deletion of your data, or opt out of communications. Since we collect very little to begin with, there usually is not much to request, but the option is always there.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top.
